Every service will be in one of these statuses at all times:
New services and new versions of existing services will be documented on this site as they become available. We will also email a change log to all registered users new services or new versions become available in the QUA and PROD environments.
Our services are versioned with 2 numbers like this: /auto/quote/1.0. The "1" in this example is the major version number, and the "0" is the minor version number. Major version number represent changes that could cause backward compatibility issues. For example, we may remove a required element from version 1.0 to 2.0. Minor version updates cover non breaking changes and patches such as adding additional optional elements or changing a previously required element to be optional.
Once a service is published to PROD, we agree to support that major version of the service for a minimum of 12 months. Minor version updates can happen at any time. Any time after 12 months we may decide the major version service is no longer needed. At that point, the major version will be marked as deprecated on this site and a 120 day notice will be sent out to all registered users. After the 120 day notice expires, we will disable the old version of the service in either the QUA and/or PROD environments.
Please note, it is not our intention to cause any of our clients heartache with this policy. We will certainly work with you if you have problems with the 120 day deadline. Please contact us so we can work something out. This policy is in place because no one can support legacy services forever. We feel the 12 month + 120 day policy is fair enough for both service providers and service consumers.
